its for the .223 rem. for pretty long range shooting 300-600 im using hornandy 75 gr. a-max and salt lake city brass and a 1:9 twistNew to reloading, which powder?
go to midwayusa.com %26amp; get a complete reloading manual for the 223 remington from ';loadbooks usa'; for $6.99 it will have every load recomended by every powder %26amp; bullet manufacturer that sells components in this country.
its a lot cheaper than buying a manual from each of the 12 or 13 companys indivivually.New to reloading, which powder?
I would start at http://www.hodgdon.com
Look in there load data page. It will get you some starting loads. If all it gives you is max loads STOP do not use them. I like Sierra manuals Hornady manuals. I also have a lyman manual which is good too. You need to start out with two or three powder in mine buy one shoot a bunch of different charge weights staying within normal safe loading data.
FYI it is just Lake City brass not Salt Lake City.
I use Winchester 748 in the cooler months. In the summer I use either Accurate XMR 2015 or Hodgdon Benchmark. This for 50 to 53gr bullets. Powder will change because you are using such a long heavy bullet.
I would go to my favorite gun store and buy a reloading manual, seriously. You will probably end up trying a variety of loads with different powders to get the one that shoots bests from your rifle. Never start at the max load for a powder and the closer to the listed max you get, the more important it becomes to weigh each charge accurately.
Long range riflery is a fascinating sport, and way too technical to get very far into here. I have friends who have won a number of 1000 yard competitions.
Added later: I see the troll wannabees are out and assuming that the only reason anyone ever fires a gun is to kill someone or something. Their ignorance is showing.
Go get lives, Trolls!
Winchester 748 powder has worked for me the last 30 + years i have been reloading
Something like H414 would be a good starting point. Hornady bullets, Hornady manual should be almost a mantra until you're more experienced.
Disregard those other assholes.
Go spend $20.00 on a reloading manual. Any reloading manual will do. This is too serious a question to be answered here.
Don't listen to those stupid *****-***, pussy treehugging idiots. I like how they jump to the conclusion that you're shooting animals and never think that maybe it's for target practice.
Stop in library and see if they have Speer or Lyman manuals. Been a while since did any reloading- 3031 for 8mm Mauser. Just a possible warning- 75 grain bullet in 1:9 twist may be a bit heavy, current M16 is using 1:7 for 62/65 grain SS109 NATO bullets. 1:9 was standard for the 52/55 grain bullet loads I think- had a bit of drift for the 62 grain bullets. If you get 2/3 minute of angle groups with the 75 grain bullets try a 50/52/55 grain bullet and see if groups tighter.
