I heard about this white powder of gold in a novel I read -- when a cyanide solution is added to the powder, the powder takes shape in a purified translucent gold. Is this just fiction or is it possible to do?
It was called m-state or a monatomic metal in the novel...White powder of gold?

Apparently, the gold forms a compound with the cyanide, taking it out of its metallic shape, enabling you to get it through metal detectors. However, you would get in trouble for transporting toxic chemicals.
